The rim is thinner on one side than the other, and that changes what you taste. Sip from the thin edge and the coffee lands at the back of your tongue, bringing acidity and florals forward. Turn it around to the thick side and it hits the front instead, where sweetness and body come through.
Same coffee, two readings. The black finish hides the colour of the brew so nothing biases what you taste, which is why it turned up on the World Brewers Cup stage in 2023.
